As we wind down towards the end of what was surely a tumultuous year both inside – and outside – of fashion, we wanted to pay tribute to New York.

The city is, paradoxically, both routinely overrated and consistently underestimated by outsiders.

It is both inaccurately looked upon as the sole possessor of America’s fashion spirit and accurately regarded as the primary driver of American fashion’s creativity and its disciplinary progression.

New York, like the country’s esteemed Statue of Liberty that stands on Liberty Island within the city’s borders, gives fashion creatives that are “tired, poor, and yearning to breathe free” (as paraphrased from “The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus) an ability to succeed in the field that many smaller cities and towns in the US without the size, variety of industry, and/or desire to do so cannot match.

So often in recent times, professional prognosticators concentrate on what New York is lacking, where it falls short, and how long that it has before it collapses onto itself in stunning splendor – with causes of death too long and bleakly numerous to count.

Thus, we wanted to take the opportunity to honor New York. We walked around our country’s fashion capital and took in the sights at a sampling of locations across Manhattan well known for being the backbone of the city’s – and by extension, America’s – fashion industry. We know that we left off the vast majority of sights, but how possible is it to take in every single fashion and shopping locale here when the wealth of options – both large and small – in the city is so astronomical?

We also included a few sites that, while they aren’t fashion-specific, are great embodiments of New York’s Christmas season. We hope that you enjoy Christmas In New York through our eyes!
